On Saturday 20 May 2023, a group of us will have a mountain to climb… literally. We will be taking on the Midnight Mountain Marathon (MMM). This event is held between 1600 and 0000 hrs, over the undulating terrain of Pen y fan peak and the wider Brecon Beacons area. This includes the Fan Dance, a route used as a part of UK Special Forces selection. We have multiple teams competing in every event. The first will be competing in the MMM half marathon. The second competing in the MMM full marathon. The third competing in the MMM half brutal Bergen (a half marathon carrying a Bergen weighing 35lbs). The fourth will be competing in the MMM brutal bergen event (a full marathon carrying a bergen weighing 35lbs). At this present time, we have 16 members of Joshs’ family and friends involved across all events.
The proceeds of this event will be donated to the same charity as Josh Gallivans’ Star of Hope fund. This is a page that has been created specifically for Josh, in order for people to share memories, stories, photographs and to donate money in Joshs‘ name. The money donated to this fund ends its journey with Bowel cancer UK, a charity at the heart of Joshs’ story.
On 14 December 2021, following a period of sustained unwellness and misdiagnosis, Josh was diagnosed with incurable bowel cancer. Josh and his loved ones were informed that incurable and terminal were disparate and so began his battle, undergoing treatment to place himself in a position to make his illness managable. In early November 2022, Josh was admitted to hospital following a decline in his health and worsening symptoms. Following further examinations, Josh and his family were informed by health care professionals that there was no longer anything that they could do. Josh began his end of life care, and made the decision, along with the love of his life, Lizzie, to bring their wedding forward. They married on Friday 11 November 2022 in the presence of their nearest and dearest loved ones, in Joshs’ hospital room. On Tuesday 15 November 2022, Josh passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family and new wife, bringing an end to his courageous battle.
Remarkably, Josh has raised well over £10,000 for Bowel Cancer UK since his diagnosis, between his fundraiser on his 30th birthday, his live streaming of his enviable gaming skills and his Star of Hope Fund following his passing. This is a legacy that we aim to continue, and if the money raised makes the smallest difference to one single person, then we have achieved the aim that Josh set out to achieve.
We thank you kindly in advance for any donations, no matter the amount, and the support that no doubt, many of you will provide us with.
Forever in our hearts Josh, we love you.
