On the 14th December 2021, after months of ill health and misdiagnosis, Josh was diagnosed with incurable bowel cancer. At the time, it was stressed to us incurable didn’t mean terminal and thus, Josh began his battle to make the disease manageable. He started chemotherapy in January 2022 however, 4 weeks into his treatment, Josh’s symptoms worsened and he was taken into hospital. After an emergency scan we found out some incredible news, Josh’s tumour had shrunk and the chemotherapy was working! However, the tumour had also moved and was now blocking 90% of his colon, causing him incredible pain and the inability to pass anything through his system. The decision was made for Josh to undergo emergency bowel bypass surgery on the 10th February 2022. This was a success and, after only 9 days in hospital, Josh was released 5 days before his 30th birthday! After his recovery, Josh returned to chemotherapy which he continued to have every fortnight until August 2022. During this time, Josh had 3 CT scans, all showing a reduction in the tumour size and lymph node swelling! His cancer team were amazed at how his body was fighting this disease! Due to the positive news, Josh and Liz decided to book their wedding for August 2023, in the hope the disease would be in a manageable state.
Unfortunately as many know, chemotherapy is incredibly intense and, after an allergic reaction during treatment in August, Josh had to take a 3 month break to allow his body time to recover.
During September and the start of October, life returned to “normal”. Attending weddings, sporting events, and enjoying everyday activities that weren’t possible during treatment. Unfortunately, towards the end of October Josh’s symptoms worsened and he was admitted to hospital on 4th November 2022. After undergoing many scans and tests, it was determined Josh’s cancer was spreading and there was nothing more they could do. On the 9th November 2022, he was placed on end of life care. Josh and Liz made the decision, after almost 9 years together, to get married surrounded by their parents and siblings in his hospital room on the 11th November 2022. 4 days later, on the 15th November 2022, Josh peacefully passed away surrounded by his family and new wife. We are so incredibly proud of you Josh, we love you forever!
